Is OCD part of a wider trend?
OCD is commonly viewed as a standalone issue. That is, there is no other illness preceding it. However, for a lot people, OCD is in fact the latest attempt by the subconscious mind to warn the person that something else needs fixing
Let me explain
When something needs fixing (e.g. trauma, self-esteem issues) the subconscious sends a message to the person. These messages can start off with something that is relatively gentle. For example, the subconscious can give a person minor social anxiety, or a fear of flying
If the gentler things don’t work, then the subconscious sends a stronger message, such as causing the person to get irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) or a stomach ulcer
If the person ignores those stronger messages and keeps living their life in the normal way, then the subconscious will send an even stronger message, which could be OCD.
So, now, look at your own medical history, and consider how far back your subconscious may have been trying to warn you, either mentally or physically. Basically, look for things that the doctor wasn’t sure where the health condition came from (e.g. eczema rarely has an attributable cause)
If OCD is part of a trend, then if you don’t do what is needed to recover in the in short term (i.e. Exposure and Response Prevention), the next thing could be you get another mental illness (in addition to OCD), or worse still, you have a nervous breakdown, where you really can’t look after yourself.
